PORTRAIT TIPS

Seniors: Bring a variety of outfits, including casual and formal apparel. Avoid clothing colors that match your skin tone, as well as pale yellow or green. If your session includes outside portraits, do not wear glasses that darken in sunlight. Please, no clothing with stripes. Avoid shirts that are sleeveless/strapless/tank tops, have stripes or have words and pictures (they may get partially cropped in the photograph). Long sleeves, turtlenecks, and V-necks are the most flattering in a photograph. You may bring props, but please check with the photographer prior to your session. Choose clothes in a style that you are comfortable in. Limit sun exposure prior to your session.

Guys: Shave close to your appointment, and cut your hair at least one week before your session.

Ladies: Bring hair and makeup brushes for touchups, and wear your makeup slightly heavier than usual. Take care in choosing your undergarments so that they do not show through your clothing.

Family Portraits: Casual outfits in earth tones work best for outdoor photographs. Long sleeves and pants photograph the best. Pay special care that socks, stockings, and shoes are in keeping with the visual intent of your photograph. Keep outfits simple. We recommend families to dress in similar color tones (see our family portrait section for examples).
